Christopher Kelly
Marriage and Family Therapy Intern
A little about me
Outside of the counseling office, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, being outdoors, hiking, paddle-boarding, woodworking, fishing, and spending time in the mountains whenever I get the opportunity. Surfing has been part of my life since I was six years old and continues to be one of my favorite ways to relax and recharge. I believe God's creation has a unique way of restoring perspective and bringing peace.
My path to becoming a therapist has been anything but traditional. Before pursuing marriage and family therapy, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries from Asbury University, spent more than twelve years serving as a Stephen Minister, leader, and trainer, and built a career in healthcare. Each season of my life has reinforced one simple truth: every person has value, every family has a story, and there is always hope.
Philosophy and therapeutic approach
I believe every person has a story worth understanding and that healing begins when people feel seen, heard, and valued. My approach is grounded in faith, compassion, and the belief that no one is defined by their struggles or past experiences. Whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, family conflict, grief, life transitions, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to walk alongside you with empathy while helping you discover practical, hope-filled steps toward healing.
My counseling style is primarily rooted in Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Person-Centered Therapy. I also draw from Family Systems principles, Motivational Interviewing, and play-based interventions when appropriate. I believe therapy is a collaborative process where we identify your strengths, build on what is already working, and develop practical tools that help you move toward the life and relationships you desire.
As a follower of Christ, my Christian faith is central to who I am and has shaped both my life and my calling to become a counselor. For clients who desire it, I am happy to incorporate prayer, biblical principles, guided meditation, and other mindfulness-based practices into our work together when they align with your goals and values. At the same time, I believe every person deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion, and I strive to create a welcoming environment where all clients feel safe, valued, and heard.
One verse that has continually shaped both my life and my approach to counseling is Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (NIV). I believe many people begin counseling when hope feels distant or the path forward seems unclear. My desire is to remind clients that healing and growth are possible—even before they can fully see what lies ahead.
No matter where you are in your journey, you don't have to walk it alone. It would be a privilege to come alongside you as we work together toward healing, healthier relationships, and renewed hope.
What to Expect in Therapy
Beginning therapy takes courage, and I want you to know that you don't have to have everything figured out before you walk through the door. My hope is to provide a safe, welcoming environment where you feel comfortable being yourself without fear of judgment.
Our first few sessions will focus on getting to know you—your story, your strengths, the challenges you're facing, and the goals that are most important to you. Together, we'll develop a plan that is tailored specifically to your needs. I believe therapy should be practical, collaborative, and focused on helping you make meaningful progress both inside and outside of our sessions.
Every person and every family is unique, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Whether we're working through relationship difficulties, family dynamics, anxiety, grief, or life transitions, my commitment is to walk alongside you with compassion, encouragement, and genuine care.
Personal Qualifications and Experience
I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at Colorado Christian University and have the privilege of serving as a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern under the supervision of licensed clinicians at Seamark Ranch.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Christian Ministries from Asbury University, where I developed a strong foundation in servant leadership, spiritual formation, and caring for individuals and families. For more than twelve years, I served as a Stephen Minister, leader, and trainer, walking alongside people experiencing grief, loss, personal crises, and major life transitions.
In addition to my ministry experience, I have spent more than two decades in healthcare, building relationships based on trust, compassion, and service. These experiences have taught me the importance of listening well, meeting people where they are, and recognizing the resilience that exists within every individual and family.
It is a privilege to serve people during some of life's most significant moments. Whether you are seeking hope, healing, stronger relationships, or personal growth, I look forward to walking alongside you as you take the next step in your journey.
